Dedicated American Red Cross volunteer Dennis Stolpner features Fire Prevention Week and the initiatives the nonprofit organization has in store for communities across America:

The presence and utilization of smoke detectors and smoke alarms in households and other buildings is imperative when it comes to fire safety.  In fact, it can even make the difference between having enough time to react to a fire and surviving… or facing an extreme disaster.  Every year, the American Red Cross hosts Fire Prevention Week as a way to shine the spotlight on the importance of being prepared for the rare event of a fire.  Of course, it isn’t possible to know when exactly a fire may actually happen.  But if you are prepared, it can truly make all the difference!  This week, Dennis Stolpner is excited to highlight the fact that in Houston, the American Red Cross chapter of Texas will be distributing smoke alarm systems to families in need.  As a general safety reminder, ARC encourages everyone to check the batteries in their detectors every two months, to ensure that everything is in working order.
